Ongoing evaluation of PEPA/IPEPA continues to show that the program is having a positive and sustainable impact on the confidence and skills of health professionals in the delivery of a palliative approach to care, and the strengthening of networks and linkages between generalist and specialist palliative care providers.

There is evidence that placement participants implement a range of strategies to disseminate new knowledge at the local level, and improve delivery of care following participation in the program.

Meet the team! Nicole Cassar is a Guditjmara, Wotjobulak and Maltese woman who has worked across Victorian Aboriginal affairs for over 30 years and a facilitator of IPEPA workshops since 2012. Nicole has a passion for working with her people and communities situated throughout Victoria and sees herself as a servant to the community, especially when it comes to giving back to the community when passing on the knowledge, she has had the privilege of gaining through both her personal and professional experiences. As a facilitator of IPEPA workshops, Nicole has thoroughly enjoyed meeting and yarning with lots of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as those professionals who support or deliver services to Aboriginal people across Victorian communities. Nicole is a storyteller and believes what makes her role most special is not only having the ability to share stories about her own palliative care experiences with other people, but also the being able to hear other people’s stories relating to their own experiences of palliative care, which she sees as critical in building on the knowledge she holds in the hope it leads to continuous improvement in her facilitation style.
