Erin Watson – Robina Qld

I work in a mental health ward, who accommodates both acute crisis admission and those who need extended treatment stays. Although we do not see patients needing palliative care needs, a lot of our extended treatment patients have co morbidities, which can lead to being life limiting.

I presented an In-service Power point presentation, highlighting the issues and bringing awareness to issues that people suffering mental issues face when accessing end of life care. I also shared my experience on what I learnt on my PEPA palliative care placement and a general overview of the Palliative care.

This brought awareness to staff and collectively we can all aim to bring equity to end of life care to all those requiring it, bridge gaps between specialties and improving our knowledge.

The presentation went well and staff on commented that the presentation brought awareness on what our consumers face when accessing palliative care.
