Geegeelup Residential Aged Care Village – WA

Geegeelup Village is a small residential aged care service in rural WA.

Co-workers discussed their knowledge of palliative care in residential aged care. We were able to improve outcomes for end of life care by setting up a trolley containing products to make a resident feel more comfortable including mouth care, eye care and skin care. We added information for family and loved ones and also designed a sign for the door depicting a butterfly.

We will create a checklist of items for the trolley and instructions on how to play music through the TV. We also plan to purchase a defuser for aromatherapy.

Carers and nurses now feel empowered to provide the best care to residents and families at the end of life, and feel able to share their beliefs, worries and knowledge as a team. The team now feel more confident in discussing and providing palliative and end of life care.
