The PEPA Aged Care workshop was very inclusive for both RNs and care staff, actively involving all who attended. Since the workshop care staff have more confidence in managing care with knowledge and sensitivity to the resident and family. RNs are more confident in their assessment, and in how to talk to families of those approaching, and at end of life.
Discussions on respect after death, have instigated a plan with Lifestyle to create a personalised drape to cover the body bag as it leaves the facility, with Community groups to support the sewing to be involved. The education on cultural considerations were of great help. Another unexpected positive outcome, some staff attending the workshop felt they wanted to further their studies.
