Rumi completed a PEPA placement so as she could increase her knowledge, confidence and skills with how she approached patients, consumers and their families when talking about palliative care and end of life care. Rumi wanted to have more confidence when understanding what medication the residents were taking and to know how this affected their ability to participate in the day of activity at the facility. Rumi also wanted to understand more about Morphine for patient care and also to explain this to family as well.
Rumi wanted to learn more about updating the care plans – to be able to understand when the resident was moving from being palliative to end of life was also important. Having this knowledge will help Rumi to be able to implement comfort care earlier once she had discussed this with the registered nursing team in the facility.
Rumi is looking forward to returning to her workplace post placement so as to share her learning with her colleagues and discuss ideas for other members of the team participating in a PEPA placement as well.
