About the Palliative Care Education and Training Collaborative

The Collaborative takes a strategic approach to education and training of the health and aged care workforce and delivers programs for priority healthcare provider groups across various contexts.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care since 2003, the Collaborative is led by Queensland University of Technology and includes:

  • Palliative Care Curriculum for Undergraduates (PCC4U)
  • Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA)
  • Indigenous Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (IPEPA)
  • National Palliative Care Workforce Action Plan.
National Advisory Group

The National Advisory Group supports the work of the Collaborative in the following ways:

  • Advises on service, system, workforce and community issues relating to palliative care and the implications of these for the activities of the Collaborative.
  • Advises on strategies relating to:
    • Promoting the uptake of PEPA by the target groups
    • Promoting the implementation of the PCC4U curriculum and resources by target groups
    • Promoting involvement of key stakeholders
    • Evaluation of PEPA and PCC4U
    • Ensuring sustainability of Collaborative outcomes.
  • Advise on the additional education and training opportunities to support the objectives of the Collaborative.
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group

The aim of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group is to provide advice and direction to The Palliative Care Education Collaborative (PCC4U and PEPA/IPEPA) to:

  • Improve the skills and expertise of all undergraduates and healthcare workforce to ensure positive experiences in palliative approach to care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Enhance collaboration and increase professional exposure to, and experiences in, palliative approach to care
  • Support the inclusion of palliative care as a component of comprehensive care throughout the life course
  • Collaborate with other National Palliative Care Projects to ensure optimal specialist advice and support is provided to all Australians in a culturally-responsive manner.
